We're hiring a Richmond Cargo Collective Lead! 🚲

Updated: 2 days ago

Very flexible, part time role available - approx 1 day per week.

Love cargo bikes? Live in the borough of Richmond upon Thames? Want to help families swap traffic for fresh air?

Solve the School Run is recruiting a Richmond Cargo Collective Lead — a very flexible, paid, part-time contractor role for someone who wants to grow a parent-powered cargo bike movement in the borough. Because family travel shouldn’t be stressful, dangerous, or wrapped in exhaust fumes. (Yet here we are.)

About Cargo Collective  🚲

The Cargo Collective is a new parent-led initiative unlocking the potential of family cargo bikes throughout London boroughs. It is a collaborative program from Solve the School Run, Green School Runs and Cargo Revolution. The Richmond Cargo Collective is supported by Richmond council who are passionate about making the borough the cargo bike capital of London!

Our Cargo Collective website is launching soon, meanwhile do check out Instagram page here.

We help families feel confident switching to cargo bikes for everyday journeys like:

  • nursery and school drop-offs

  • trips to the park

  • supermarket runs

  • after-school clubs

  • weekend adventures

  • and all the chaotic in-between moments that don’t fit neatly into a timetable

We do this through:

  • low-key, friendly events

  • parent-to-parent support

  • a growing WhatsApp community network

  • practical advice from people who actually do it (in the rain, with bags, with snacks, with small humans shouting “I dropped my glove!!”)

The role (in a nutshell)

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, cargo-bike loving Richmond resident to lead the Richmond Cargo Collective.

You’ll help develop the programme locally by:

  • supporting our low-key events programme

  • growing our WhatsApp network

  • connecting with local parent communities so cargo bikes become normal, not niche

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys getting things moving — in every sense!

What you’ll be doing

🚲 Grow the Richmond Cargo Collective community

  • Welcome new families into the Richmond network

  • Keep the WhatsApp space active, friendly and useful

  • Encourage peer-support, advice-sharing and local connections

🍰 Support events (low-key, family-friendly)

  • Help organise and promote simple local meetups

  • Encourage families to come along, ask questions, and try cargo bikes

  • Help parents understand how cargo bikes work in real life for everyday journeys — not just “cycling days out”

  • Make it feel easy, welcoming, and not like a big formal thing

📣 Spread the word locally

  • Connect with Richmond parent groups, schools, nurseries and community networks

  • Help more families discover cargo bikes as a realistic option for everyday family travel

Location

This role needs to take place within the borough of Richmond upon Thames.

The role is a combination of working from home as well in person meetings, events and outreach across the borough of Richmond on ad-hoc basis.

Hours & flexibility

  • Approx. 1 day per week

  • No set hours — fit around your existing commitments.

  • You decide when and how you do the work, as long as the programme grows and events are supported

Contract

  • Contractor role

  • 6-month contract

  • £180 per day

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • a Richmond resident,

  • experienced with family cargo bike travel (or very confident and committed!)

  • enthusiastic about helping other families try sustainable travel

  • well connected to Richmond parent communities locally (or excited to build those links)

You don’t need a formal cycling background — you just need the energy and warmth to help families feel confident making a change.

How to apply (or ask questions)

Drop us an email at: hello@solvetheschoolrun.org

We’ll set up a time to chat.

Deadline: 14th February

We look forward to hearing from you!
