SOLVE Community Code of Conduct

We’ve started our Code of Conduct to ensure our fast-growing SOLVE community is a respectful and inclusive place for everyone involved. That could be if you’re having a conversation on WhatsApp, on social media, or at the school gates..

Our principles

 

Respect. Empathy. Inclusion. Positivity. Creativity 

 

We expect community members to always engage respectfully with each other whether they are expressing agreement or disagreement.

Creating safer and healthier streets around schools is complicated. It is a systems problem not a people problem. We are not here to call out individual behaviour but to change the systemic issue of streets that are designed for car dominance not children’s safety.  Everyone will have views, behaviours and circumstances that vary, judging and moralising isn’t helpful and has no place here. Empathising and creating respectful digital and in real life  spaces for people to learn,  for their ideas to grow, for their horizons of what’s possible to expand, is one of the most important ways to get to the change.

Inclusion

Our network is for everyone, if it’s not for everyone, we won’t succeed. Our members are all colours, backgrounds, identities. Being welcoming to everyone means thinking about who’s in the conversation. Take time to invite people’s opinions, encourage comments and give people time to respond.  Think about when and where you meet in person and ask if it works everyone.

Positivity

We know that tackling the risks of road danger can feel heavy and the challenges can feel insurmountable, but change is happening in all major cities from Milan, to Paris to London to New York. So we urge members to remain  positive because positivity is contagious! Make sure you highlight the good things you like about your streets, or changes you happening, not just the bad.

Creativity 

Cars have dominated our streets for so long it’s hard to imagine streets where children’s safety is prioritised. So be creative. and keep an open mind. Check out streets designs where things are working better,  where communities have made it happen. Remember “it always seems impossible until it is done” (Nelson Mandela) 

 

WhatsApp guidelines 

​

  • Be kind, respectful and constructive at all times.

  • Stay on topic: keep messages relevant to the themes of safer and healthier streets for children in your area and closely related topics.

  • Be considerate: Disagree politely, no personal attacks, harassment or discrimination

  • Be inclusive: If only one or two people are dominating a conversation that is often a sign that other people are feeling excluded or uncomfortable. Take time to invite people’s opinions, encourage comments and give people time to respond.

  • Respect privacy, phone numbers are visible, so don’t share messages or screenshots or personal information outside the group without consent.

  • No promotional posts, spam or misinformation - this includes any commercial goods or service

  • Scam awareness: Never send money or share financial or personal details with people you don’t know or trust.

  • Moderation - admins reserve the right to remove posts or members that do not align with these guidelines

  • Contacts - If members experience or witness behaviour that makes them uncomfortable they are encouraged to contact an admin privately or hello@solvetheschoolrun.org

  • Disclaimer - By remaining in Solve WhatsApp networks, you acknowledge that Solve bears no responsibility for third-party interactions and that participation is at your own risk.
